How to create a roleplaying character

Something else in between ...

have in mind, that some still have to make a new character for the new PTU times I sat down and tried to summarize what has helped me create my own concept. I hope you can start a little something with it. And of course I'm always happy about constructive criticism, opinions, additions and general feedback. :)

How to create a roleplaying character ...

This is not a mandatory checklist how to create a character. I try to play only briefly, experience what I did in creating my character. I tried to skizieren the approximate end of creation. It was not easy, because actually everything flows into each other somehow. It's not always gone so gradlienig, as I have listed here, because it was just a conversation and as we are sometimes jump back and forth. But basically that's been the rough process.
Of course not everything happens in half an hour, but has been pulled over several evenings and is actually still in development, because I always think of things that I want to explain ...

This is the approximate order in which I the individual points have dealt with: setting

Profession
general character traits (especially the decision about what I can and will play and what is not?)
basic motivation / motivation to work in the special unit
career
binding to the CPID
career ( ? USPOC or PIC What Spezielausbildungen)
hobbies / music / movie taste
talents (What is your character good)
quirks / idiosyncrasies / ticks
religiosity
family
sexual orientation
appearance
Name

talks: What has helped me in particular was the talk of the Char. I keep coming only the ideas that when I entertain myself with someone about it. Gradually, one comes to the individual things I can pick up the other suggestions, or is met with points you should probably know. It has helped to describe my character and to explain.

From baton sticks again: It is often the case that lurches from keyword to keyword. Since there is no exact order, need to be followed. But many things are complementary, yes. The family affects the way someone was brought up. The circumstances in which you grow up shape the principles and philosophy. If I made up my mind what I have my character traits, then I can also consider how these features have developed.

critical second opinion: It's good if you have a contact person who sounds the concept and says that he considers to be playable. And above all, if he considers it to be realistic. Or, if you are in certain areas no longer helps knows. One has done it, I think if the other is the nature described imagine as well.

Talents / value: forget the first for ... it's much easier to think about the value only when a character concept is developed. It is clearly easier to adjust the values he sees fit, to create a character as to the values.

Can I imagine my character? People tend to make a universal character. But that is no one. When I imagine a character, he has strengths and weaknesses. There may be areas in which it is not so well and areas in which he is particularly good.

Not to start into too much detail: Catch really with the person you wish to create the. The trappings results gradually.
